about
Six hours of content to help school leaders and teachers implement and embed the recommendations of the new Prayer and Liturgy Directory. These practical and inspiring videos follow the latest guidance from the Catholic Education Service and Catholic Schools Inspectorate.
Greg is joined by guest speakers including Tom Baptist, Director of Chaplaincy in Nottingham Diocese, Claire Fernandes from St Mary’s University, Rachel McEvoy, CEO of St Columba's RC Academy Trust, Chris Martin, Headteacher of St Thomas Aquinas Catholic School, Birmingham and Fr Simon Gillespie, Episcopal Vicar for Education in the Diocese of Nottingham, who all share insightful knowledge and expertise.
Session one - how to plan prayer & Liturgy
Greg is joined by Tom Baptist to discuss how to plan ‘Prayer and Liturgy’ in school. Tom is Director of Chaplaincy at the biggest Catholic multi-academy trust in Nottingham Diocese. He uses the 'lenses' of Season, Scripture, Senses and Structure to plan ‘Prayer and Liturgy.’ Greg asks Tom questions such as 'How do we choose the right scripture each day?' 'How does the season we are in influence our theme?' and 'How do we form children to lead Prayer and Liturgy?' We hope this session will be both practical and inspiring.
Session two - celebrations of the word: Gather & Word
An outstanding celebration of the Word, one which facilitates profound encounters with God, requires us to gather prayerfully. In this session, Greg shares ways to prepare children to meet with Jesus. From our offices at Hinsley Hall, he models the Gather and Word elements of three of his favourite celebrations of the Word. He then breaks open how to introduce scripture to children and how to choose which parts of scripture to share.
Session three - celebrations of the word: response & mission
When adults pray with children, they must take on the role of facilitator. It is not the role of the adult to teach or impart knowledge, rather it is their task to facilitate children’s encounters with God. If we ask the right type of questions and build silence into celebrations of Word, we can allow children to hear God speaking to their hearts. We can also help them to respond to him. In this session, Greg is joined by Claire Fernandes from St Mary’s University as they discuss the very best ways to help children respond to God in prayer and be inspired to live out their faith in the world.
Session four - leading in a catholic school
Leading in a Catholic school is challenging. The culture and temperature for faith created by a school leader can impact the spiritual formation of hundreds of children. We want to help school leaders create wonderful Catholic schools which have Jesus at the centre. In our fourth session, Greg speaks with Rachel McEvoy, CEO of St Columba's RC Academy Trust and Chris Martin, Headteacher of St Thomas Aquinas Catholic School, Birmingham. They discuss the challenges and joys of Catholic leadership and reflect upon the best ways to lead in a Catholic school.
Session five - celebrating mass in school
Holy Mass is the highest form of prayer in our Catholic tradition but preparing for Mass in school can be an intimidating challenge for school leaders. In our fifth session, Greg speaks with Fr Simon Gillespie, Episcopal Vicar for Education in the Diocese of Nottingham, about how to celebrate Mass in school. Fr Simon offers invaluable encouragement and advice for anyone planning Mass in school. We hope this session helps alleviate any worries or anxieties that school leaders have about Holy Mass in the school context.
